How to enable Mail Forwarding for PSU Webmail

This article will describe how to set up a forwarding filter from within your PSU Webmail account. This will ensure that you recieve important messages sent to your PSU email address even if you do not regularly check it.

Requirements

  • You must have an active ODIN account in order to use PSU Webmail. In addition, you must also have a working external email address to forward mail to.

Steps

  1. Navigate to http://webmail.pdx.edu and log in using your ODIN username and password.

  2. Once there, click 'Filters.' If you do not see filters, click on 'Options' and then choose 'Filters' from the rightmost column.

  3. If there is a big red X to the right of 'Forward' in the 'Enabled' column, click it to enable email forwarding. If you see a green check mark instead, skip to step five.

  4. You should now receive a message informing you 'Rule Enabled.'

  5. Click 'Forward' to edit your email forwarding settings.

  6. Enter the email address you'd like to forward your PSU email to, if you have more than one account you'd like to receive the mail from you can separate the email addresses with commas. It is also a good idea to check "Keep a copy of messages in this account?" to prevent accidental email loss until you are sure your forwarding is set up properly.

  7. Your mail forwarding has now been set up.

Troubleshooting

  • If your messages are being forwarded, but you did not activate the filter, check with the User Support Services Helpdesk. If you choose, the Helpdesk can enable a forward for you that redirects the mail before it reaches your Webmail inbox. The filter described in this walkthrough redirects messages AFTER they come into your Webmail inbox. If your messages are being forwarded with the Webmail forward filter turned off, this is probably the case.

I turned off my forwarding filter, but my messages are still being forwarded! What should I do?

  • Make sure that you have your filter options configured to automatically update when you change your scripts. To do this, from the 'Filter List' menu as seen in step 5 of the above walkthrough, select the 'Options' icon at the top of the screen. Make sure that the 'Automatically update the script after each change' check box is checked. Click the 'Save Options' button, and try disabling the filter again. As long as the box is checked, the changes you make will be automatically applied.
