How to Use OAM to Manage your Existing Odin Account

This article will describe how to use the ODIN Account Manager (OAM) system to manage your ODIN account. OAM allows you to synchronize your ODIN account with your PSU Information System (Banweb) login, so that you may use one username and password to access all PSU computing resources. If you ever forget your password, OAM also has a handy 'Forgot Password' feature that will allow you to reset your own login information from any computer 24/7, without having to verify your identity with the User Support Services Helpdesk.

OAM will also allow you to join the new myPSU portal, which brings together information from diverse sources across the university and displays it in one convenient, customizable location. Note that, until your account has been synchronized in OAM, you will be unable to log into myPSU.

What if I don't have an ODIN account?

If you don't have an ODIN account yet, you can use OAM to create a new one. Refer to the article 'How to Use OAM to Create your ODIN Account' for instructions on how to do so.

Requirements

  • You must have an ODIN account username and password to go through the process below.

Steps

  1. Open your web browser of choice and navigate to oam.pdx.edu. You will be greeted by the screen shown below. Enter your ODIN username and ODIN password in the fields, and click 'Login.'

  1.  You will now see a flowchart visually describing the rest of the OAM process. Click on the 'Click Here to Continue' link at the bottom of the screen to proceed.

  1. Choose AT LEAST two of the authentication questions to answer. If you ever forget your OAM password, you may answer two of these questions to have your password automatically reset. Once you have done so, click on the 'Save' button to continue.

  1. You will see a screen informing you that your authentication answers have been successfully changed. Click on the 'OK' button to continue.

  1. You will be greeted by a screen with a brief description of what the OAM process will do vis-a-vis your new or existing account(s.) Click the large link at the bottom of the page to continue.

  1. During this step, you will accomplish several important tasks related to your account. Refer to the screen capture for a visual walkthrough.
    1. You will choose a username for your account from the first pull-down menu. You may continue using your current username by selecting it from the menu.
    2. Next, you can select a new email address from the second pull-down menu. Again, you may keep your current address by selecting it.
    3. If you would like to have your PSU mail forwarded into another email account, check the first check box. This will cause a field to appear in which you may enter the external email account you wish to have your mail forwarded to.
    4. Checking the bottom two boxes indicates that you have read and accepted the PSU Acceptable Use Policy and Electronic Communications Policy. For more information on these policies, click the links next to the check boxes and the text of the policies will appear in a pop-up window.
    5. You will now be required to change your password. Erase the placeholder dots from the two fields at the bottom of the page. You may now click 'Save' to finalize the OAM process.

  1. Congratulations! You have now synchronized your accounts in OAM. Make sure to log out of OAM before proceeding to use other PSU computer resources.

Troubleshooting

  • If you have trouble creating a password that the system will accept, review the password guidelines carefully. Although it may take several tries to create an acceptable password, the guidelines help ensure that it will be extremely challenging for a malicious user to guess your password, or use a password cracking program to obtain access to your account.
  • Note that the OAM system will require your password to be changed every six months. You will be informed via email by User Support Services when you password is close to expiring. Please visit OAM and log in to change your password in order to maintain your access to PSU computer resources.
  • If you choose a username in step 6 that you are unhappy with, click the 'Cancel' button. You will then be taken back to step 5 and will have the oppurtunity to repeat step 6 and choose a username.
  • If you are going through the OAM process on an on-campus computer that you are logged onto, make sure to reboot after completing the process. Until you do so, you may be unable to access network resources such as the H: and I: drives.
