This article will describe the process of creating a new ODIN account using the Odin Account Manager (OAM) system. OAM serves as a centralized account management site where you can create your account, change your password, and manage your mail options. Faculty and Staff will now be able to update their PSU Directory information directly though OAM. The account you create in OAM will be used to access PSU Webmail, Blackboard, on-campus wireless, the PSU Information System (Banweb,) and the all-new MyPSU portal.
What if I forget my password?
If you ever forget your password, OAM has a handy 'Forgot Password' feature that will allow you to reset your own password from any computer 24/7, without having to verify your identity with the User Support Services Helpdesk.
What if I already have an ODIN account?
If you have an ODIN account already, you may go through the OAM process to synchronize your ODIN account. This will allow you to use your ODIN account for access to all PSU computer accounts and resources. For assistance with this process, see the article, 'How to Use OAM to Manage your Existing ODIN Account.'
- To create your ODIN account using OAM, you must have your acceptance letter or Quick Entry Letter from the Office of Admissions. It contains your PSU ID Number as well as an OAM security code that you can use to log in to the system for the first time. This code will consist of your birthdate in MMDDYY format and a randomly generated security code. If you do not have this letter, contact the USS Helpdesk.
- Open your web browser of choice and navigate to oam.pdx.edu. You will be greeted by the screen shown below. Enter your PSU ID number and OAM security code in the fields, and click 'Login.'

- You will now see a screen informing you that your password has expired. This is normal; you will need to choose a new password that meets the following criteria:
- total length between eight (8) and thirty characters (30.)
- the password, or any part of it, may not contain a dictionary word.
- the password must contain at least one letter and number
- you must have ten consecutive unique passwords before you may re-use the password you create in this step.
Enter your chosen password in both fields and click the 'Change Password' button.

- You will now see a flowchart visually describing the rest of the OAM process. Click on the 'Click Here to Continue' link at the bottom of the screen to proceed.

- Choose AT LEAST two of the authentication questions to answer. If you ever forget your OAM password, you may answer two these questions to have your password automatically reset. Once you have done so, click on the 'Save' button to continue.

- You will see a screen informing you that your authentication answers have been successfully changed. Click on the 'OK' button to continue.

- You will be greeted by a screen with a brief description of what the OAM process will do vis-a-vis your new or existing account(s.) Click the large link at the bottom of the page to continue.

- During this step, you will accomplish several important tasks related to your account:
- You will choose a username for your account from the first pull-down menu.
- Next, you can select an email address from the second pull-down menu.
- If you would like to have your PSU mail forwarded into another email account, check the first check box. This will cause a field to appear in which you may enter the external email account you wish to have your mail forwarded to.
- Checking the bottom two boxes indicates that you have read and accepted the PSU Acceptable Use Policy and Electronic Communications Policy. For more information on these policies, click the links next to the check boxes and the text of the policies will appear in a pop-up window.

Click on the 'Save' button to apply the changes you have made and complete the account creation/synchronization process.
- Congratulations! You have successfully created your account using the OAM process. Make sure to log out of OAM before proceeding to use other PSU computer resources.
- If you are a new student and have not recieved the letter containing your OAM security code, or your code does not work, contact the USS Helpdesk to have a temporary password generated.
- If you have trouble creating a password that the system will accept, review the password guidelines carefully. Although it may take several tries to create an acceptable password, the guidelines help ensure that it will be extremely challenging for a malicious user to guess your password, or use a password cracking program to obtain access to your account.
- Note that the OAM system will require your password to be changed every six months. You will be informed via email by User Support Services when you password is close to expiring. Please visit OAM and log in to change your password in order to maintain your access to PSU computer resources.
- If you choose a username in step 7 that you are unhappy with, click the 'Cancel' button. You will then be taken back to step 6 and will have the oppurtunity to repeat step 7 and choose a username.
For help using OAM, going through the above process, or for more information, contact the USS Helpdesk.
