This article will demonstrate how to transfer your files to the PSU web server using Dreamweaver.
This tutorial assumes you have already created a webpage or website using the software. It is assumed you have a basic knowledge of Dreamweaver.
- A valid ODIN account username and password.
- Dreamweaver installed on your computer.
- Open Dreamweaver and click on the Sites menu and choose New Site.

- This will open up the Site Definition window.
- a) Click on the Advanced tab.
- b) Give the site a name. You can pick whatever you want, since the name is only used in Dreamweaver to distinguish this site from other sites you may have created.
- c) Click on the folder icon to the right of the Local root folder: field. Chose the folder that contains your website files, and then click the Select button.
- d) If you have a sub-folder that you have stored all your images, click on the folder icon next to the Default images folder field. Choose the folder that you have stored your images in, and click the Select button. If you do not have an images folder, then skip this step.
- e) Type in the web address of your files.
- If you are putting your files in the main directory of your PSU personal web space, just type:
http://web.pdx.edu/~username where username is your ODIN username.
- If you are putting your files in a sub-folder of your PSU webspace, then type:
http://web.pdx.edu/~username/subfolder where username is your ODIN username and subfolder is the name of the sub-folder you want to upload your files into.
- If you are putting your files in the main directory of your departmental/student group web space, type the web address you were given: Ex. http://department.pdx.edu

- When you are done defining your local information, you need to define the PSU webspace information.
- a) Click on the Remote Info category.
- b) Choose FTP under the Access dropdown field.
- c) Type in the following information:
- FTP host: odin.pdx.edu
- Host directory:
- If this is a personal website, then type: public_html
- If this is a departmental website or student group, type in the name of the website assigned to you.
Ex. department_web.
- If you are uploading your files to a sub-folder on your site, then type public_html/subfolder or department_web/subfolder
- Login: Your ODIN username
- Password: Your ODIN password
- d) Check the box for Use Secure FTP (SFTP).

- e) Once you have entered all the settings, click the Test button. If you are successful, you will see the following window:

- Click the Ok button to save your settings.
- You should now see your web site files in the Files panel to the right of your Dreamweaver window. (If you do not see the Files Panel, click the Window menu and choose Files.)
- Click once on the title of your website to select the entire website, and click on the Up arrow button (Put button) to put your local files on the remote server.

- It should ask you if you want to put up the entire site.

- Click Okay, and it should publish your files to the remote server.
- If you want to upload individual files, you can click on the file name and then click on the up arrow button (Put button). Dreamweaver may ask you if you would like to upload the dependent files. Click on Yes if any of the images or links on this page have been updated.

- You can check that it is working, by typing the web address of your site into an internet browser.
Ex. http://web.pdx.edu/~username
http://web.pdx.edu/~username/subfolder
http://department.pdx.edu
- If your page is not displaying properly after following the above steps, try deleting the index.html file from your public_html folder and uploading it again. Clearing your web browser's cache can also help with page display issues.
- If you are unable to upload any files, your UNIX/Web folder may have reached quota. Your UNIX/Web folder serves as storage for both your website and for any programs you write in ODIN using UNIX. Thus, both will count towards your total quota. Delete unneeded files, or move them to a different location, to make more space for your website.
- If you need more quota space for University-related business, you may request an increase from the User Support Services Helpdesk. Students initially receive 50 MB of storage space, while Staff and Faculty receive 150 MB.
