OIT Training Schedule - Fall 2009

Workshops are offered throughout the academic year by the Office of Information Technologies and are available to PSU faculty, staff, and students at no cost. To register for classes, send email to mluebke@pdx.edu with the class and date you would like to register for. Please contact the workshop instructor if you have any questions.

IDSC Software

All workstations in the IDSC lab are loaded with a standard set of applications and related tools, such as web browsers, media players, and FTP utilities. Workstations are further divided into specialty areas for media development (i.e. web, graphics, video) and are loaded with industry-standard software. Both Mac and Windows platforms have equivalent hardware and software allowing lab users to work in the operating system of their choice.

How can I access my network drives (H:, I:) from off-campus?

One of the features of your ODIN account is file storage space on the PSU server. On campus computers, you can access this space from 'My Computer' in Windows or from the Finder in Mac OS. This space is also accessible from off-campus. The procedure to access your home directory (H: drive) or the Departments & Students directories (I: drive) depends on your operating system. Please choose your computer's operating system from the list below:

Removing McAfee VirusScan Enterprise from your Home Computer

This article will describe the process of uninstalling PSU's McAfee VirusScan from your home computer. Like most anti-virus programs, McAfee VirusScan is resistant to uninstallation to protect itself from removal attempts by malicious software. This, however, means that it is also more difficult for you as an end user to remove it if you wish to use a different antivirus solution. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you leave your computer unprotected by any kind of security software.

PSU Email Settings (Advanced Users)

This article lists the client settings needed to use PSU email and is intended for users already familiar with configuring their email clients. Users who need step-by-step instructions should refer to the configuration article for their email client.

How to remove McAfee VirusScan and McAfee Agent

  1. Go to Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Vista) and select "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise" and select Uninstall.

Configuring Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows XP

This article will describe how to set up Mozilla Thunderbird to retrieve your PSU email on a computer running Microsoft Windows XP. A full-featured email client such as Thunderbird offers more flexibility and control over your inbox than browser based Webmail. Power Users who are familiar with the configuration of email client programs may want to instead review the Email Settings for Advanced Users elsewhere on our site.

Server addresses for accessing PSU file servers from off campus.
