Computer Lab Printing Policy

Printing in the Portland State University Academic Computing Labs is regulated by printing quotas. Each user is allocated 500 pages per term that do not carry over to the next term. Users that do not exceed their quota will not incur any charges.

Number of Printed Pages Charge
0 to 500 prints No Charge
501 and up $0.025 per page

Users printing over their 500 page per term quota will automatically be billed for the additional printing at $0.025 per page. (Charges are billed to students' account at the end of each term). To keep track of your remaining quota and overage charges, visit print.pdx.edu.

Sponsored Account Printing Policy

Users with sponsored accounts have the same 500 page quota, but the process for obtaining additional quota beyond that is different. Sponsored account holders wishing to do so must fill out the Quota Reset Request form and present it to the Cashier's office in Neuberger Hall, or the IDSC lab next to the Helpdesk in Smith Memorial Student Union room 18. The cost to reset a Sponsored account print quota to 500 is $25.00, which must be turned in along with the above form. You will be given a receipt by the cashier or lab attendant, which can be shown to staff at the User Support Services Helpdesk to have your print quota reset.

Printing Policy FAQ

Why did PSU implement a printing quota?

  • Reduce paper and toner usage in computer labs

  • Reduce waste and promote sustainability: currently, about 40% of the paper printed in the labs is not claimed by users and must be recycled.

  • Distributes the cost of excessive printing to those consuming the most paper

  • Fee helps offset the increasing cost of printing

How do I find out how much of my print quota I have used?

  • Your print quota and transaction history can be found by logging into http://print.pdx.edu with your Odin account. Please note that this website is only accessible while you are on campus.

What happens if I use my entire quota?

  • You will automatically be charged for additional pages at a rate of $0.025 per page. This will be billed to your student account at the end of each term.

What happens to my quota from term to term?

  • Your quota will be reset at the beginning of each term, to 500 pages.

If I don't use all 500 prints one term, am I credited those prints the next term?

  • No. Print quotas are reset at the start of each term.

What if I use double-sided printing in the lab?

  • This will be charged as two pages. The major cost of printing is the carbon toner used to print the page. The toner use is the same on each side of the page so it is counted as 2 pages.

Can I print in color?

  • Yes! we now have color printing available for students in the BHB226 24-hour lab, NH96 lab, and the 1st floor Millar Library lab. Cost is 4 quota credits per page or $0.10 per page after your quota is depleted. PSU Students only. [Faculty and staff may print in color at the IDSC graduate lab in SMSU basement, Room 18].

Can I print using my own special paper?

  • The only allowable print size/paper in the general labs is plain 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Specialty paper may be used in the IDSC faculty/graduate lab in some cases. Please contact the IDSC at 503-725-9111 for more information.
