Enabling the F9 and F10 function keys in Internet Native Banner (INB) on Mac OS X versions 10.3 and 10.4

People often use the F9 and F10 keys to perform various functions in INB. If your Mac has OS X 10.3 or 10.4 then you may find that these keys do not work as expected. In Mac OS X 10.3, Apple introduced a new feature called Exposé which allows people to view all open windows as thumbnails. By default, Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 reserve the F9 and F10 as keyboard shortcuts for Exposé. In order to use these function keys in INB, you must change the shortcut keys associated with Exposé.

Steps
Note that the figures below are from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and appear differently under 10.3 (Panther). The primary difference is that Mac OS X 10.3 does not have Dashboard.

1. Under the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. Click on the icon labeled Dashboard & Exposé. On 10.3 the icon is labeled Exposé.
3. The keyboard shortcuts appear in the bottom half of the window. By default, these shortcuts are associated with the F9, F10, F11, and F12 keys.
4. Change the All windows shortcut by pressing and holding the Command/Apple key while clicking on the drop-down menu for All windows. This will associate the All windows shortcut to the [Command/Apple + F9] key combination.
5. Do the same for the Applications windows shortcut. For consistency, you should do the same for the Desktop and Dashboard shortcuts but this is not required as INB doesn't use the F11 and F12 keys.
6. Quit System Preferences.

You will find that INB now responds properly to F9 and F10. When using Exposé via keyboard shortcuts, remember to hold down the Command/Apple key while pressing the desired function key.
