How can I access my network drives (H:, I:) on OS X (on or off campus)?

This article explains the process for connecting to the various file servers offered by PSU, from both on and off campus, using OS X.

Requirements

You will need your MAC OS X computer, as well as your ODIN account information.

Steps

  1. Determine the appropriate address for your present location and computer:

If you are accessing these fileshares from off campus, use one of the addresses listed in Off Campus server addresses. Unfortunately if you are using an older version of Mac OS (Mac OS prior to 10.4) you will need to connect to the webDAV (or off-campus addresses) using an application called Goliath. Procedures for this are described in "Connecting to Off-Campus Servers Using Goliath".

If you are using Mac OS 10.4 and better (and are on campus) use these addresses:

If you are using Mac OS prior to 10.4 (and are on campus), use these addresses:

  2. To access your PSU computer account directories in Mac OS X choose to the "Go" menu and click "Connect To Server"
  3. In the 'Address' field of the dialog that appears, type one of the following if you are on campus.
  4. In the dialog that appears make sure that "Workgroup/Domain" is set to "PSU", "Username" is your odin login, and "Password" is your odin password (figure 3). Please note that at times OSX will capitalize your username, just clear the username box and re-type it lower-case. After clicking "OK" an icon labeled for the mounted directory will appear on the desktop. If you are connecting from off campus, OS X will not ask for a workgroup/domain.

If you are unable to get this to work properly we highly recommend that you bring the computer to the Help Desk in Smith Memorial Student Union Room 18 so that a technician can troubleshoot with the computer in front of them. You can also call the Help Desk at 503.725.HELP or email help@pdx.edu for answers to general questions about the network, its operation and use.
