Can User Support Services troubleshoot or repair my computer?

User Support Services currently offers these two services for student computers:

Virus/Malware Cleaning ($10 fee). For a nominal fee, User Support Services will attempt to clean student computers infected with viruses or other malware (spyware, adware, etc.). The computer to be cleaned must be brought to User Support Services in room 18, Smith Memorial Student Union. Computers will only be accepted on weekdays until 10:00 AM. A limited number of computers will be accepted per day. Note that USS will not accept a machine if personal data (such as documents or music) has not been backed up by the student submitting the machine for scanning. USS will neither perform data backups nor accept responsibility for data damaged, corrupted, or lost during the virus cleaning process.

We also provide a Security CD, which includes the university's licensed copy of Mcafee Anti-virus software. If you are a Resnet customer, you should have already recieved one. Any student who does not have one (Resnet customer or not) can pick up a copy at the USS Helpdesk in SMSU 18.

Basic PSU network connectivity issues. User Support Services will attempt to troubleshoot problems connecting to PSU's network through dial-up, wireless ethernet, or ResNet. Please call User Support Services (Helpdesk) at 503-725-4357 before bringing your computer in so we may attempt to troubleshoot your problem over the phone. If we can't resolve the problem over the phone, the computer may be brought to User Support Services in room 18, Smith Memorial Student Union.
User Support Services can fix configuration issues and install drivers as needed, but will not install or repair hardware. All other issues with student computers are not handled by USS and will need to be taken to a computer repair service. For local service options, see "Where can I get local service for computers not supported by USS?"
